Science, Technology & Society Studies is fast emerging as an important field of interdisciplinary research. It draws not only form
different disciplines in social sciences, bur also from emerging science and technology disciplines. Young scholars who are pursuing PhD projects in STSS often find themselves in relative intellectual isolation with disparate discourse links in
their respective institutional environs. This is further accentuated by the fact that space
available for intellectual and academic discourse on the relevant themes is quite inadequate within existing professional
societies and journals.
The workshop intends to break such barriers and provide an academic and
professional platform for interaction and debate by bringing together
young STSS researchers in one place from different institutions in India.
The idea of instituting an annual workshop for PhD students in STSS
emerged from a discussion among a group of scholars involved in teaching
and research on the subject over the last two decades.
The workshop is quite similar to summer/winter schools on specialized
themes organized by various institutions and bodies both in India and
abroad. The idea is to bring together young scholars in STSS pursuing PhD
projects in different Indian universities and institutions to interact and
discuss their research problems, theoretical and empirical frameworks and
methodological questions with the faculty for three
days. More
